You will be riding across mostly level terrain, through the thick stands of ponderosa pine that thrive in the volcanic soils of these mountains. As you explore the trails at the northern edge of this area you will eventually encounter a gorge cut into the tuff by the east fork of the Jemez River. This region is bordered to the south by NM 4.
