Eglin Air Force Base set aside a portion of its 728 square miles north of the Emerald Coast for a six-mile loop of singletrack around Timberlake, a small body of water made by Garnier Creek. Large knuckles of land formed live oak hammocks. Lotus blooms floated on Timberlake's surface, and turtles poked their heads above the reflection and watched the ones wearing shells on their heads.
